What review harvesting does
Most operators with 40 reviews have roughly the same guest satisfaction as operators with 400. The difference is a system. The operators with 400 reviews ask consistently — after every departure, at the right moment, with a frictionless path to the review platform. The operators with 40 ask when they remember, which means some months and not others.
Review harvesting builds that system: a post-trip sequence that goes to every traveler after their tour completes, routes happy guests to your Google and Facebook profiles, intercepts unhappy ones privately, and sends a polite follow-up to the third who meant to leave a review but never got around to it.
How it works
- Tour completes. The booking record marks the departure as done.
- Morning-after message. Each traveler receives a warm SMS or email the next morning — when the experience is still vivid and their phone is still full of photos from the trip.
- One-tap review link. A direct link to your Google Business Profile or Facebook page. One tap, no login walls, no multi-step process.
- Sentiment check. If a traveler indicates dissatisfaction, they’re routed to a private message to your team rather than to a public platform — so you can resolve the issue before it becomes a one-star.
- Follow-up reminder. Travelers who don’t respond get a single, friendly nudge 48 hours later. No more than two touches per trip.
- Dashboard visibility. Response rates, review volume, and platform breakdown visible in your GHL reporting.
What the traveler sees
Something warm and specific: “Hi Marcus — hope the Douro Valley wine tour was everything you expected and more. If you have a spare minute, a quick Google review would mean the world to us and help other travelers find us. Here’s the link: [direct link]. Thank you for spending the day with us.” Low pressure, easy path, genuine ask.
What the operator sees
- Consistent review requests going out after every single departure — not just when you remember.
- Review volume building steadily month over month.
- Negative feedback intercepted privately before it reaches public platforms.
- Google and TripAdvisor rankings improving as your review velocity increases.
- Reduced reliance on OTA platforms that charge commissions, as your own Google profile strengthens.
Review harvesting connects to Google My Business reply automation, which ensures every new review also receives a quality, on-brand response — completing the full review cycle without manual work.
Compliance note
Review requests go only to travelers who provided contact details and opted into communication at booking. SMS messages honor STOP and email includes unsubscribe. Sentiment routing is designed to support service recovery — not to suppress genuine negative reviews. You must comply with each review platform’s guidelines: no review gating (withholding the review link from unhappy travelers), no incentivizing positive reviews with discounts or gifts, and no posting reviews on travelers’ behalf.
Which review platforms are supported?
Google Business Profile and Facebook are the primary platforms. TripAdvisor links can also be included. You choose which platforms get priority during setup based on where your travelers are most active.
What is sentiment routing?
Before showing travelers the public review link, an optional pre-screen question (e.g., 'How was your experience today?') identifies unhappy travelers and redirects them to a private message to your team. This is about service recovery, not suppression — the goal is to resolve the issue privately rather than have it become a public one-star.
How many follow-up messages are sent?
A maximum of two per trip: the initial morning-after message and one reminder 48 hours later if there's no response. We deliberately keep the cadence light — heavy review chasing frustrates guests.
Can the timing be adjusted for multi-day tours?
Yes. For overnight or multi-day expeditions, the trigger is set to the morning after the final day — not the first night. The setup lets you define the completion trigger that makes sense for each tour type.
